In today’s economy businesses are struggling to keep their doors open and a ploy that is being used is haunted sightings, a good example of that is a hotel here in Illinois not far from the Illinois / Wisconsin border. This hotel has had its fair share of problems over the last 20 years with lack of year round business, franchise license for a hotel name being pulled, health department issues and the list goes on from there. Within the last 6 years stories have been circulating that the hotel is haunted, knowing a previous manager of this site I asked them point out about the claims. She stated that it was her maintenance staff that started this with a few teenagers that were staying there while a Halloween party was in swing at the hotel. From that minute forward this story had circulated here around Lake County and throughout the paranormal community in the Midwest.
Now I personally don’t care what a business does to promote business however, exploiting false claims of haunting, paranormal activity or mischievous entities and bringing in only one paranormal group who has bought these claims hook, line and sinker is in lack of better words pathetic. Worse than that is promoting these claims by doing a package deal of a room and investigation for the evening. I’d rather see people spend their money on a “Haunted” bus tour in a major city and get a bit more out of their evening that to waste money at a hotel with no creditable evidence to the claims or activity and a paranormal group who should know better.
